The Identity Crisis of Fallen ManWhy You Cannot Know Who You Are Until You Return to Elohim

Why You Cannot Know Who You Are Until You Return to Elohim

The greatest crisis in mankind is not political, financial, emotional, or social. The greatest crisis in mankind is identity. Fallen man does not know who he is because fallen man has been separated from the One who created him. When a person does not know Elohim, they will spend their life trying to find themselves in everything that can never give them true identity.

They will search for identity in relationships. They will search for identity in careers. They will search for identity in sexuality. They will search for identity in money, titles, trauma, addiction, ministry, family roles, political labels, and religious performance. But none of those things can tell a person who they are. Only the Creator has the authority to define what He created.

That is why the identity crisis is so dangerous. It does not just affect how a person sees themselves. It affects how they live, how they speak, how they choose, how they respond to correction, how they handle pain, how they receive love, and whether they walk in the authority YHWH intended for them to carry.

From the beginning, satan has attacked identity. In the garden, the serpent did not begin by openly telling Eve to rebel. He began by questioning what Elohim said. He created confusion around the Word, because once truth is questioned, identity becomes vulnerable. If the enemy can get a person to doubt what YHWH said, he can begin to reshape what they believe about themselves.

That same war is still happening today.

Fallen Man Is Spiritually Dead Without Yeshua

The Word of Elohim does not flatter the fallen condition of man. It tells the truth.

Ephesians 2:1–3 says:

“And you did he make alive, when ye were dead through your trespasses and sins, wherein ye once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the powers of the air, of the spirit that now worketh in the sons of disobedience; among whom we also all once lived in the lusts of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.”

— Ephesians 2:1–3, ASV

That is not soft language. It says dead. It says trespasses and sins. It says the course of this world. It says the prince of the powers of the air. It says sons of disobedience. It says children of wrath.

This is what fallen identity looks like without Yeshua. It is not wounded people simply needing motivation. It is spiritually dead people needing resurrection. It is people enslaved to the world system, the flesh, sin, and demonic influence, while believing they are free because culture gave them permission to name themselves.

The Greek meaning behind “world” carries the idea of an ordered system. It is not just talking about trees, oceans, and people. It is talking about the arranged system of fallen mankind under rebellion. That world system trains people to build identity apart from Elohim. It tells them, “Follow your heart.” But Scripture says the heart is deceitful. It tells them, “Define yourself.” But Scripture says we were created by Elohim and for His purpose. It tells them, “Your truth is your identity.” But Yeshua said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.”

So we have to tell the truth plainly. Fallen man does not have an identity problem because he lacks confidence. Fallen man has an identity problem because he is separated from Elohim.

The Image Was Marred, But the Design Was Not Erased

Genesis 1:26–27 says:

“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. And God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”

— Genesis 1:26–27, ASV

Man was created in the image and likeness of Elohim. The Hebrew meaning behind “image” carries the idea of representation. The Hebrew meaning behind “likeness” carries the idea of resemblance and pattern. That means mankind was created to reflect Elohim, represent His authority, and steward what He placed under man’s care.

But when sin entered, the mirror was damaged. Sin did not make mankind meaningless, but it did corrupt mankind’s ability to reflect YHWH rightly. This is why people can still carry gifts, intelligence, creativity, compassion, and leadership ability, yet use those same things in rebellion. The image is still there, but the soul is corrupted by sin until it is restored through Yeshua.

This matters because so many people are trying to heal identity without dealing with sin. They want affirmation without repentance. They want confidence without surrender. They want purpose without obedience. They want destiny without death to the old man. But identity cannot be restored while rebellion is being protected.

The Hebrew meaning of sin carries the idea of missing the mark. That means sin is not just rule-breaking. Sin is missing the created purpose and target of Elohim. When a person lives in sin, they are not just making bad choices. They are living beneath the identity they were created to carry.

The False Names of Fallen Identity

satan destroys identity by branding people with false names until they believe those names are who they are.

Addict. Failure. Rejected. Abandoned. Orphan. Unworthy. Dirty. Mistake. Unlovable. Broken. Too far gone. Not enough. Too much. Shameful. Powerless.

Those names do not come from YHWH. They come from sin, trauma, abuse, rejection, word curses, generational patterns, demonic torment, and agreement with lies.

Some people were named by what happened to them. Some were named by what they did. Some were named by what their parents spoke. Some were named by abandonment. Some were named by molestation. Some were named by divorce. Some were named by addiction. Some were named by religion. Some were named by culture.

But a wound is not an identity. A sin struggle is not an identity. A diagnosis is not an identity. A past is not an identity. Trauma may explain what happened, but it does not have the authority to define who YHWH says a person is called to become.

That is why deliverance matters. If a person does not renounce the false name, they will keep answering to it. They may say they believe Scripture, but when pressure comes, the old name will speak louder than truth. That is why so many people confess Yeshua but still live like orphans, slaves, victims, performers, and beggars.

The Orphan Spirit Behind the Identity Crisis

One of the main spirits behind broken identity is the orphan spirit. This spirit tells a person, “You are alone. You are unwanted. You do not belong. You must perform to be loved. You must protect yourself. You must control people before they leave you. You must prove your worth.”

The orphan spirit can show up in many ways. It can look like people-pleasing. It can look like rebellion. It can look like perfectionism. It can look like isolation. It can look like jealousy. It can look like control. It can look like religious striving. It can look like constant offense. It can look like the inability to receive correction because correction feels like rejection.

But Scripture gives the answer.

Romans 8:15–17 says:

“For ye received not the spirit of bondage again unto fear; but ye received the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit himself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are children of God: and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified with him.”

— Romans 8:15–17, ASV

The Greek meaning behind “adoption” is not casual. It speaks of legal placement as a son. This is not sentimental language. This is Kingdom language. Through Yeshua, the believer is no longer an orphan trying to earn a place. The believer is adopted, named, sealed, and brought into inheritance.

That means the orphan spirit is a liar.

You do not have to perform for a place Yeshua purchased. You do not have to beg for belonging when YHWH has adopted you. You do not have to keep wearing rejection when the Father has called you His child.

Identity Is Restored Only in Yeshua

Identity is not restored through self-discovery. It is not restored through motivational speeches. It is not restored through personality tests, cultural labels, or religious activity. Identity is restored through death, burial, and resurrection in Yeshua.

2 Corinthians 5:17 says:

“Wherefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: the old things are passed away; behold, they are become new.”

— 2 Corinthians 5:17, ASV

The Greek meaning behind “new creature” carries the idea of something made new, something brought into a new condition. This is not behavior modification. This is not Elohim polishing the old identity. This is supernatural re-creation.

The old man must die. The false names must be renounced. The agreements with darkness must be broken. The lies must be exposed. The soul must be healed. The demons must be cast out. The mind must be renewed. The tongue must come into agreement with truth. The life must be brought under obedience to Yeshua.

That is why true identity cannot be separated from repentance. People want the comfort of being called chosen without the surrender of being made holy. But Scripture does not separate those things.

Ephesians 1:4–5 says:

“Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blemish before him in love: having foreordained us unto adoption as sons through Jesus Christ unto himself, according to the good pleasure of his will.”

— Ephesians 1:4–5, ASV

He chose us unto holiness. He adopted us unto Himself. Identity and holiness walk together.

Who You Are in Yeshua

When a person is truly in Yeshua, Heaven gives them a new identity.

You are not who sin called you. You are not who trauma called you. You are not who rejection called you. You are not who abuse called you. You are not who your past called you. You are not who the world called you.

In Yeshua, you are chosen. You are adopted. You are redeemed. You are washed. You are called out of darkness. You are set apart. You are the temple of Ruach HaKodesh. You are a citizen of Heaven. You are seated with Messiah. You are an ambassador of the Kingdom. You are part of a royal priesthood. You are called to walk in authority, obedience, and truth.

1 Peter 2:9 says:

“But ye are an elect race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, that ye may show forth the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.”

— 1 Peter 2:9, ASV

That is identity. Not a slogan. Not a cute phrase. Not emotional encouragement. That is a decree from the Word of Elohim.

But this identity must be believed, received, spoken, and walked out. If you keep speaking like the old man, agreeing with the old labels, returning to the old bondage, and rehearsing the old shame, you will continue to live beneath what Yeshua purchased.

The Authority of Restored Identity

When identity is restored, authority is restored.

Luke 10:19 says:

“Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall in any wise hurt you.”

— Luke 10:19, ASV

The Greek meaning behind “authority” carries the idea of legal right and jurisdiction. This is important. Authority is not volume. Authority is not emotion. Authority is not religious language. Authority is legal standing in the Kingdom of Elohim through Yeshua.

This is why the enemy fights identity so hard. satan is not afraid of religious performance. He is not afraid of people who know words but do not walk in obedience. He is not afraid of people who quote Scripture while still agreeing with his lies. But he does fear sons and daughters of Elohim who know who they are, know who sent them, know what the Word says, and refuse to negotiate with darkness.

The sons of Sceva in Acts 19 tried to use the name of Yeshua without belonging to Yeshua. The evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?” That is a warning. Demons recognize true authority. They also recognize imitation.

Authority flows from relationship, surrender, obedience, and identity in Yeshua.

Breaking Agreement With False Identity

This is where the teaching becomes personal. You cannot just read about identity. You have to examine what names you have been answering to.

Have you answered to rejected? Have you answered to addict? Have you answered to abandoned? Have you answered to failure? Have you answered to victim? Have you answered to shame? Have you answered to fear? Have you answered to control? Have you answered to orphan? Have you answered to not enough?

Then those names must be renounced.

Not because we are pretending pain did not happen. Not because we are denying the reality of trauma. Not because we are acting like sin had no consequences. We renounce those names because they do not have legal authority to define the redeemed.

Proverbs 18:21 says:

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue; And they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”

— Proverbs 18:21, ASV

Your mouth matters. Agreement matters. Confession matters. If you keep saying, “This is just who I am,” when YHWH has called you out of it, you are giving life to the old identity. The tongue must be trained to come into agreement with the Word of Elohim.

Renunciation Prayer

Father YHWH, in the name of Yeshua, I come before You in repentance and truth. I renounce every false identity I have agreed with. I renounce the name rejected. I renounce the name abandoned. I renounce the name addict. I renounce the name failure. I renounce the name unworthy. I renounce the name orphan. I renounce the name shameful. I renounce every name spoken over me by trauma, sin, abuse, rejection, culture, religion, family, and the kingdom of darkness.

I repent for agreeing with lies about who I am. I repent for speaking death over myself. I repent for letting pain define me more than Your Word. I repent for trying to build an identity apart from You.

In the name of Yeshua, I break agreement with the orphan spirit, the spirit of rejection, the spirit of shame, the spirit of fear, the spirit of bondage, the spirit of confusion, the spirit of self-hatred, the spirit of performance, and every lying spirit that has tried to name me something You never called me.

I declare that my identity is found in Yeshua alone. I am not who I was. I am not what happened to me. I am not what I did. I am not what they called me. I am who YHWH says I am.

I receive the truth of adoption. I receive the witness of Ruach HaKodesh. I receive the cleansing, deliverance, healing, and restoration purchased by the blood of Yeshua. Teach me to walk as a son or daughter of Elohim. Teach me to speak truth. Teach me to reject every counterfeit name. Teach me to live set apart, holy, obedient, and free.

In the name of Yeshua, amen.

Final Charge

The world is drowning in false identity. People are being told to name themselves by their desires, wounds, politics, diagnosis, sexuality, trauma, and rebellion. But the remnant cannot come into agreement with that confusion.

Fallen man does not need a better self-image. Fallen man needs resurrection. Fallen man needs repentance. Fallen man needs deliverance. Fallen man needs Yeshua.

The identity crisis ends when a person returns to the One who created them.

Romans 8:19 says:

“For the earnest expectation of the creation waiteth for the revealing of the sons of God.”

— Romans 8:19, ASV

Creation is waiting for the sons and daughters of Elohim to be revealed. Not religious performers. Not powerless spectators. Not wounded people pretending to be whole. Sons and daughters who have been delivered, healed, corrected, restored, and sent.

The thief has stolen identity long enough.

It is time to renounce the false names, return to YHWH, and walk in the identity Yeshua purchased.
